Specific Entry Requirements

In GCSE English Language and Maths, a minimum of a grade 3 in one and a grade 2 in the other plus some GCSEs at grades 3 or 4

Subject Intent

Childcare qualifications are essential because they improve child outcomes by providing learners with the necessary knowledge of child development, safeguarding, and early learning principles, ensuring children receive high-quality care and education. Such qualifications also equip aspiring professionals with crucial skills like communication and planning, support career progression into management and specialist roles, and provide a recognised standard that builds trust and assures parents of quality care. This course is a great opportunity to start your journey into the sector.

Course Introduction

This course provides an opportunity to study a range of topics from three main areas: childcare and education, babysitting and parenting responsibilities. It serves as a great introduction to the level 3 T level in Education & Early Years or level 3 Health and Social Care pathways. It provides an excellent grounding in both essential knowledge & practical experience for those wishing to move into employment within the sector or for further study beyond our level 3 programmes.

Course Modules

It contains units in:

  • Preparation for the responsibilities of parenting
  • Learning, child development and the importance of play
  • Babysitting; safeguarding & legislation

Assessment

You will be assessed by your tutor using a range of methods. This could include practical tasks, course work or group presentations. There are no exams.

Course Fact

This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age.
